Discover Changde: Poetry Wall and Poetry Park
Accommodation in Changde
Changde offers two specific cultural attractions: the Changde Poetry Wall and Changde Poetry Park. Nearby, street culture, food options and activities at Liuye Lake provide further points of interest. The holiday apartment that suits your plans will therefore depend mainly on whether you want to focus more on Changde’s cultural sites or on nearby destinations.
Poetry and parks in Changde
The Changde Poetry Wall is more than four kilometres long and divided into eight sections: “百代沧桑”, “名贤题咏”, “武陵佳致”, “兰芷风华”, “华夏新声”, “五洲撷英”, “时代风采” and “千古绝唱”. These named sections give the wall a clear thematic structure. Changde Poetry Park offers a second point of interest: it is open to the public, non-profit, and an important tourist reception and visitor destination.
A 2024 administrative report lists four themed tours established by the Changde Poetry Wall administration: a classical route, a route focused on red culture, one focused on integrity culture, and an educational route about Party work. The tour programme may change, so check which tours are available before your visit.
Street culture and food nearby
Nearby Changde, Changde Hejie is a themed street on the banks of the Chuanzi River in Liuye Lake Tourism Resort. Its design is inspired by the former street along the Yuanjiang River. Changde Hejie has been recognised as a national tourism and leisure district and a national cultural and tourism consumption area for nighttime activities. Its four areas are Mayang Street, Xiaohe Street, Dahe Street and Tianrun Plaza.
Xiaohe Street, which is more than 300 metres long, is home mainly to snack stalls and speciality restaurants; individual businesses may change. Dahe Street, around one kilometre long, offers a different perspective: its buildings recreate foreign trading houses, shops and residences from before 1943. Most are courtyard houses and 窨子屋 (Yinzi houses). The two streets therefore have different focuses: Xiaohe is primarily about food, while Dahe features recreated architecture.
The newly built section of Changde Hejie is 1.5 kilometres long and has 281 shops operated by 150 traders. The numbers of shops and traders may change. The four named areas, their distinct streetscapes and the food options offer various points of interest if you are planning a visit to the area around Changde.
