The wider Huainan area offers a range of themes, from historical collections and architecture to green spaces integrated into the city and a forest park featuring diverse landscape and cultural attractions. When planning your trip, it is worth first deciding whether culture, architecture or nature will shape your stay most. If you are travelling with varied interests, you can weigh up the specific themes rather than trying to squeeze as many stops as possible into a packed itinerary.

Culture and Architecture in the Wider Area

Among the Huainan Museum’s particularly distinctive collections are objects from the states of Cai and Chu, objects from the Han dynasty, and Sui- and Tang-dynasty ceramics from the old Shouzhou kilns. A museum information release published in 2022 names these groups. Together, they span different historical periods and types of objects, so the cultural focus is not limited to a single era.

The Huainan Science Museum offers a different emphasis. A municipal article from 2025 mentions six permanent exhibition halls and 311 exhibits. The contrast between the Huainan Museum’s historical collections and the scientific character of the Huainan Science Museum alone offers different themes to consider when planning your trip. You can think about whether historical objects or a focus on science museums is more likely to pique your curiosity.

Huaihe Old Street 1952 also offers a distinctive architectural perspective. A municipal report from September 2025 describes many buildings along the street as dating from the 1950s and 1960s, combining traditional Chinese and Western architectural styles. This very juxtaposition of architectural languages is part of its appeal: alongside the museum collections, architecture stands out as a cultural theme in its own right.

Green Spaces and Forest Landscapes

Shungeng Mountain Scenic Area is located in the central part of Huainan’s main urban area and forms a key part of the city’s green and landscape system. This landscape setting within the city differs from the forest landscape of Shangyao National Forest Park in eastern Huainan. The two descriptions offer different perspectives on nature in the wider area around the city.

Shangyao National Forest Park encompasses more than 30 hills. An official tourism website from 2018 gives its area as 10.4 square kilometres and its forest coverage as 87.9 percent. The park’s profile combines ecotourism, cultural landscapes, religious activities, recreation and environmental education. Its main attractions include Dongshan Temple, the exhibition hall of the New Fourth Army Memorial Forest, Siyuan Teahouse, a covered walkway, an animal release pond and Dizang Hall. The mix therefore extends beyond landscape alone: religious and commemorative sites, as well as environmental education, are also among the themes described. An official tourism classification lists the park as a national 4A-rated tourist attraction.

For Huainan as a whole, a city profile updated in 2026 lists 44 A-rated tourist attractions, including eight rated 4A. This total may change.

Choose Your Travel Focus

When choosing a holiday apartment in Huainan, you can use the different themes as a guide to the kind of trip you want: Shungeng Mountain Scenic Area represents green space integrated into the city, while Shangyao National Forest Park offers hills, forest landscapes and a variety of cultural and educational activities.
