Local Character

Almost every household in Ashotavan grows raspberries in its own backyard. Once a year, the Raspberry Festival takes place in Ashotavan. The festival includes competitions and awards. It also combines Armenian food, songs, and dance with interaction with local residents. Visitors can join in singing national songs and performing national dances.

Culture and History

A monument to the Second World War stands on a hill in Ashotavan. It commemorates those who lost their lives in the war. Kirakosik appears in a list from the late 13th century and was resettled by migrants from Khoy between 1828 and 1830.

Water and Paths

Ashotavan is located on the shore of the Tolors Reservoir. Above Ashotavan, the Sisian River flows into the Tolors Reservoir. The route to Tanahat initially leads through Ashotavan. From Ashotavan, the road towards Tanahat runs parallel to the Sisian River.
