Culture and history

Lermontovo was once entirely Molokan; today, both Molokans and Armenians live there. Lermontovo and Fioletovo are Molokan villages that were settled in the 19th century by Spiritual Christians from Russia. Both places feature architecture that differs from Armenian architecture. Lermontovo is also associated with the historical name Voskresenka and the year 1847.

Landscape

Lermontovo and Fioletovo are located in a landscape of forests and mountains. They lie in alpine mountain landscapes and sloping valleys; farms are situated along the road. The Aghstev River rises in the area around Lermontovo and Fioletovo and winds through the valleys.

Road connections

The route from Gyumri to Dilijan via Vanadzor passes near the villages of Lermontovo and Fioletovo; views from the roadside and stops along the way are highlighted. Lermontovo and Fioletovo are located in Lori on the Vanadzor–Dilijan highway.

The T-5-10 road follows the sequence M-8–Lermontovo–Margahovit–Fioletovo–M-8. The T-5-81 road connects Lermontovo on the T-5-10 with Antarashen.

Food

Near Lermontovo and Fioletovo, visitors can stop at roadside stands offering pickled vegetables prepared by Molokan women. Seasonal roadside stands in Lermontovo and Fioletovo offer cabbage, carrots and potatoes. In spring and summer, the offerings may include cherries, plums, preserved fruit, compotes, mountain honey and wild mushrooms. The sauerkraut associated with Lermontovo and Fioletovo is sold at markets.
