History

Chkalovka was founded by Russian settlers in the 19th century. The Russian founding population came from the Saratov region of Russia. The settlement is also associated with a cultural heritage established by Molokan settlers.

Before 1946, Chkalovka was called Alexandrovka. On 26 April 1946, the settlement was renamed Chkalovka in memory of the pilot Chkalov. Zeynal Abedin, Zeynal Aghalu, Palu Postnik, Korkotis and Korkotia are recorded as historical names for Chkalovka. Descendants of the original settlers left Chkalovka during the 1960s.

Chkalovka is included as an overnight stop on a seven-day rural circuit through Armenia. From the stop in Chkalovka, the tour continues along the shore of Lake Sevan towards the peninsula.
