Malabar is located in the Khomas Highlands on the C28, in the vicinity of Windhoek. The farm borders the Daan Viljoen Wildlife Sanctuary to the north. If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Malabar, compare its location with the park entrance and your planned hiking trailheads. Wildlife watching and tours in the sanctuary can complement your stay.

Farm area on the C28

The C28 divides the farm area approximately in half. The southern part is less mountainous than the northern part, which borders the sanctuary. From various parts of Malabar, views extend towards the Auas Mountains and Windhoek. The farm area is not a general public hiking area; use agreed access points and respect private property.

Daan Viljoen: Highlands and wildlife

The park protects an ecosystem of the Khomas Highlands. Its vegetation includes highland shrubland with acacia species, kudu bush and buffalo thorn. Mammals found there include springbok, kudu, eland, oryx, blue wildebeest and Hartmann’s mountain zebra. Around 200 bird species also make the area interesting for birdwatchers. Sightings of individual species cannot be predicted.

Plan hikes to suit your stay

The park description lists hiking trails of three and nine kilometres, as well as a 32-kilometre overnight trail, which requires a booking.
