Norsup is the main gateway to Malekula; flights connect the town with Port Vila and Santo. When planning a holiday rental, it is therefore important to first decide whether Norsup itself is the main focus of your trip or whether you want to explore more of Malekula. Check flight connections and times for your travel dates.

Coconut processing and regional tours

On the Copra & Sightseeing Tour, visitors can see how coconuts are processed into copra for health and wellness products at the PRV coconut plantation in Norsup. This makes an agricultural raw material tangible through a specific processing step. Further afield, the tour also visits the Malampa Cultural Centre above the community of Lakatoro, where visitors can see a collection of artefacts from the region. At Vanuatu Nuts & Oils, visitors can observe the processing of cacao, nangai and tamanu, depending on the season. A visit to the Fresh Produce Market is also included: there, visitors learn more about the variety of locally grown produce and can buy directly from the growers. At the market, the focus is on cultivation and direct purchasing; at the processing stations, it is on the raw materials and how they are processed. Confirm before your trip whether the tour is offered on your dates.

A multi-day route across Malekula

The six-day Small Nambas Intrepid Adventure, with five nights, travels through northeastern and western Malekula. The itinerary includes visits to a coconut plantation, a copra factory, the Malekula Cultural Centre, a market and the Malampa Handicraft Centre. The stated duration and coverage of the island give you a concrete framework if you want to include a multi-day route in your accommodation and travel plans.

Malampa Province: further travel experiences

In the wider destination of Malampa Province, the Manbush Trail on Malekula passes through traditional villages, tropical rainforests and untouched coastal landscapes. On the third day, participants reach their guesthouse in Lebongbong and can enjoy seasonal Nesowong there, a dish made from bush banana, water taro and coconut milk. Malekula is also home to the Small Nambas and Big Nambas, known for ritual dances, traditional clothing made from pandanus leaves and tribal ceremonies. In Malampa Province, the Dog's Neck Bike Trail offers a different kind of tour: the cycling route runs from coast to coast through the north of Malekula.

On Ambrym, also in Malampa Province, the Rom Dance is a masked dance performed at spiritual and initiation ceremonies. The Maskelyne Islands host an annual canoe racing festival that celebrates traditional canoe racing and boatbuilding. If you want to include one of these events in your travel plans, check the dates.
