Holiday apartment in Jinja District and surroundings: choose a location on the Nile

A holiday apartment in the Jinja area can be chosen according to two travel interests: proximity to the urban area at the outlet of Lake Victoria, or a base for exploring the Nile landscape. Jinja District is in eastern Uganda and forms part of the Busoga region. Jinja City and the present-day district are administratively distinct; the name alone is no substitute for checking the address.

Choosing accommodation for a visit to the Nile

The well-known Source of the Nile site is near Jinja City, at the lake outlet. The former Ripon Falls have been submerged since 1954. So treat them as a historical reference when reading descriptions of the old river landscape.

Accommodation with “Jinja” in its name does not have to be directly by the water or offer excursions. The actual location and the agreed meeting point for a booked activity are what matter when choosing.

Itanda Falls or Bujagali Lake?

The district administration describes Itanda Falls as a destination on the Nile with opportunities for birdwatching. Bujagali Lake, by contrast, refers to the lake landscape at the former Bujagali Falls. If you want to explore different stretches of the river, you can include these destinations separately in your plans.

The tourism description also mentions boat activities at Bujagali. Check the specific programme, transport arrangements and scope with the provider. This does not guarantee a departure or include a transfer from a holiday apartment.

Bugembe and further accommodation searches

Bugembe became part of Jinja City in 2020. So compare accommodation there by its city location, not by an older district classification.
