Pan de Azúcar features public artworks, cultural venues, and a city park with native and non-native plant species. Hiking, workshops, and events add to the experience. There are several themes to choose from for your stay, ranging from art and local history to the park and outdoor activities.

Art and History in Town

On Plaza 19 de Abril, there is a bust of the writer Álvaro Figueredo, created by local artist Robert Arriola. Also on the plaza is “La Mesa,” a work by local artist Ruben Marín. The plaza was redesigned and described as the country’s first plaza accessible to people with disabilities. The bust and artwork offer two distinct artistic points of reference in one place.

The Casa de la Cultura y Museo Álvaro Figueredo also brings together a cultural venue and local history: The building dates from 1878 and belonged to Francisco Bonilla, one of the town’s first residents. The Museo Jacinto Vera displays religious objects from the former chapel dating to 1877, the four founding books, documents, photographs, and parish furniture.

The Museo de Pinturas al Aire Libre, del Tango y el Candombe offers another connection to art in public spaces. Works by numerous local artists and artists from the Río de la Plata region can be seen on the town’s walls. Restoration of the murals is currently underway.

Park, Plants, and Events

Numerous native and non-native plant species can be seen in Parque Municipal Zorrilla de San Martín. Landscape designer Piegas Oliú brought plants from Canada.

The park is also an event venue: In January, it hosts the Fiesta de los Niños y los Reyes Magos. It includes outdoor activities and artistic performances for families and children. In February, the same park serves as the venue for the “Dulce Corazón del Canto” festival. If you plan your stay for one of these months, you can include these events in your travel plans.

Hiking, Classes, and Workshops

Red Ánimas offers hiking, cultural activities, and educational workshops. Its listed location is Casona Maidana at Calle Aiguá 835 in Pan de Azúcar. The three types of offerings have different emphases: exercise, culture, and learning in a workshop.

Some classes and workshops are also held at the Biblioteca y Casa de la Cultura “Ricardo Leonel Figueredo.” Alongside artworks and collections, learning and cultural offerings are therefore among the themes you can consider when planning. The January Fiesta is specifically geared toward families and children; other travel interests may focus more on hiking, art, or local history.

Find a Vacation Rental to Suit Your Travel Interests

When looking for a vacation rental in Pan de Azúcar, you can first consider what you want your trip to focus on: hiking and workshops, public art, local history, or the park and its events. If you are traveling with children, you can consider the Fiesta held in January as a specific event to include in your itinerary. If art and history are more important, the plaza, cultural venues, and collections offer other points of interest.
