If you’re considering Andresito, it’s also worth exploring the wider Flores destination. Its themes range from water activities and wildlife watching to geology, archaeology and history. This gives you a wide choice of interests to guide your search for a holiday rental as you plan your trip.

Lakes, Wildlife and Nature Experiences

In the Lagos de Andresito area of the Flores Department, you can enjoy nautical activities, sport fishing, geotourism and nature tourism. Water and landscape are key themes here for anyone looking to combine their stay with outdoor activities.

At Ecoparque Tálice, visitors can ride on a lake in white swan-shaped boats. The park’s protected area is home to 1,500 animals from 120 species; these figures may change. Large herds of deer and peccaries live across more than 40 hectares, which visitors can explore. Guests can also tour the park by electric bus and observe animals in their natural habitat. The park offers an educational, informative and entertaining nature experience for people of all ages.

Geology and Landscape in Flores

The UNESCO Global Geopark Grutas del Palacio is located in the Flores Department in south-central Uruguay. Its natural and cultural landscapes include geological, palaeontological, archaeological, historical and cultural sites. This provides a thematic framework spanning the formation of the landscape to traces of human history.

One specific example of this diversity is the Localidad Rupestre de Chamangá. The protected area covers more than 12,000 hectares east of Trinidad and lies in the Río Negro catchment area and the sub-catchment of the Chamangá stream. Its source lies in the Cuchilla Grande Inferior. Archaeological finds are also part of the region’s history at Arenales de Paso del Palmar. These include projectile points, bolas, cores and numerous flakes. They are associated with people who lived there thousands of years ago, possibly more than 10,000 years ago.

Museums and History

In Trinidad, the Museo Histórico Departamental de Flores Dr. Fernando Gutiérrez is housed in a former railway station built in 1916. Exhibits include fossilised dinosaur remains and archaeological material related to the rock paintings in the Chamangá protected area. The museum thus brings together the geological history of the Earth and archaeological evidence from Flores.

The creation of the Dr. Rodolfo Talice Flora and Fauna Reserve is also part of the destination’s history: it grew out of the “Flores por la vida” project and was inaugurated on 30 July 1991. Together with the nature and geopark themes, it shows how different interests—wildlife, landscape and history—can all feature on a trip through Flores.
