Palora offers several specific starting points for planning a trip: central cultural sites, scenic destinations in the canton and pitahaya cultivation. These attractions are not all in the same place. So if you’re looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether to focus on the town or on nature destinations.

Nature destinations with different highlights

The Río Llushín is twelve kilometres from the urban parish, outside the town but in the nearby area. Thanks to its beauty and the limited human impact, it is considered one of the main attractions of Palora canton. Its location clearly distinguishes it from the cultural sites in the centre: the river is a scenic destination in its own right. The distance gives you a concrete sense of location when deciding how much to prioritise the town and excursions to the surrounding area.

Another natural attraction is the Mirador Río Palora in the Arapicos sector. Activities there include photography, rides on the Tarabita and observing flora and fauna. The lookout offers panoramic views of the Río Palora’s water volume; on clear days, the Sangay, Altar and Carihuarazo volcanoes are visible. If a Tarabita ride is important to your plans, check in advance whether it is currently available.

The two destinations offer different highlights: the Mirador focuses on views, observation and activities, while the Río Llushín is characterised by its beauty and limited human impact. This lets you choose between a lookout with several opportunities for observation and a scenic destination in the nearby area.

Cultural sites in central Palora

The Iglesia Central is in the northern neighbourhood, opposite Parque Central. It is located on 6 de septiembre and 14 de febrero streets, as well as Avenida Ibarra. The “Letras Corpóreas de Interpretación Cultural” (Three-Dimensional Cultural Interpretation Letters) stand in the canton’s Parque Central on Avenida Ibarra. The church and the cultural lettering are two clearly identified landmarks around the central park.

Behind the Mercado Municipal in the central neighbourhood, on Hugo Castillo Street, is the Centro Intercultural Palora. It houses paintings and statuettes representing the canton’s cultures. Together with Iglesia Central and the lettering in Parque Central, it offers a specific selection of cultural highlights: a central church, a cultural landmark in the park and a collection representing the canton’s diverse cultures.

Pitahaya: cultivation and products

Agricultural cultivation in Palora’s municipal area is another topic of note, including Finca Amazon Gardens. Finca Amazon Gardens, in the municipal area of Palora, specialises in pitahaya; the fruit is grown on 35 hectares. Products on offer include wines made from yellow and red pitahaya. The cultivation area and the two named fruit colours give this topic a tangible product focus that sets it apart from the cultural sites and scenic destinations.

Which location suits your stay?

When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to match your priorities with the locations of the attractions. If cultural sites are your main consideration, include the central town area in your search. If you prioritise nature and views, consider the Río Llushín’s location outside the town and the Mirador in the Arapicos sector. These specific location details make it easier to choose thoughtfully, without treating the different destinations as if they were all in one place.
