Maipo brings together wine history, protected landscapes and cultural traces. In Alto Jahuel, wine tradition and historic buildings meet at the foot of the Andes; in Paine and Aculeo, distinct natural attractions come to the fore. There is also archaeological evidence at Cerro Chena and a festival in Buin in April. This mix is appealing if you are looking for more than one focus on a trip: wine and history sit alongside biodiversity, environmental education and culture. When choosing a vacation rental, it can therefore help to consider which of these themes you want to shape your stay.

Landscape and Nature in Maipo

Parque de la Viña Santa Rita is located in the Alto Jahuel area, in the municipality of Buin, at the foot of the Andes. In Paine, the El Ajial Nature Sanctuary covers 2,134 hectares. The private Altos de Cantillana Nature Reserve is dedicated to protecting biodiversity at every level and also serves as a center for biodiversity conservation, environmental education and scientific research. It is located on Camino Champa–Rangue at kilometer 20 in Aculeo.

The Chena and Lonquén hills are also among the destination’s natural attractions. They are considered natural areas of high ecological and cultural value, as well as priority areas for biodiversity conservation in the Región Metropolitana. These natural settings also offer an archaeological perspective: the remains of an Inca archaeological site are located at Cerro Chena.

Wine History and Cultural Traces

The park, houses, chapel and wine cellars of Parque de la Viña Santa Rita were declared historic monuments in 1972. The Santa Rita winery began selling its wines in 1882. In Alto Jahuel, a historic ensemble and a long-standing wine tradition come together.

Mujer Andina Wines offers a different perspective. Founded in 2012, this family project focuses on wine and sparkling wine and follows a predominantly organic and environmentally responsible philosophy. Its featured products include the “Levita” sparkling wine, a 100% organic Syrah, and “Ai!” Brut Chardonnay–Pinot Noir. To sell its products, the project opened a bodega intended to contribute to the development of wine tourism in the municipality. The Fiesta de la Vendimia de Buin is a family outing held in April. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the specific dates.

Choosing a Vacation Rental Based on Your Interests

When choosing a vacation rental in Maipo, let your preferred focus guide your choice: wine history and monuments in Alto Jahuel, nature in Paine and Aculeo, or a stay centered around the Fiesta in Buin. First, consider which of these experiences interests you most. This way, your choice reflects the stay you have planned, rather than relying solely on the destination’s name.
