Discover Buín
Accommodation in Buín
Buín combines animal experiences at Bioparque Buinzoo with cultural offerings such as workshops and exhibitions at Centro Cultural Maipo. At the zoo, visitors can enjoy a range of different experiences: landscaped habitats and animal behaviour, guided tours, and Dino Parque with its animatronic dinosaurs. If you are planning a trip to Buín, you can take these offerings into account when choosing where to stay.
Wildlife and Dino Parque
At Bioparque Buinzoo, environmental enrichment and specially designed enclosures encourage the animals’ natural behaviours, while also recreating their natural habitats. This gives visitors a chance to observe both how the enclosures are designed and how the animals are kept active. Children interested in Chile’s wildlife can also join the two-hour guided tour “Al sur del mundo: Animales de Chile”. It teaches them about Chile and its wildlife and raises awareness of each person’s responsibility for nature conservation.
Another two-hour guided tour is called “Scouts – La tropa recorre Bioparque Buinzoo”. This tour combines exploring the park with learning about nature conservation from the guides. The two tours have different focuses: one centres on Chile and its wildlife, while the other focuses on exploring the park and nature conservation. Families can choose the focus that interests them most.
Dino Parque features a safari with animatronic dinosaurs, an excavation zone and a water playground. Alongside its animal areas, the park therefore also offers dinosaur-themed attractions and activities. If you are planning a visit with children, you can make these areas a separate part of the day rather than focusing your whole visit on the wildlife.
Allow time and choose how to get there
A full tour of Bioparque Buinzoo takes an average of three hours. If you want to see the entire park, allow at least four hours. These time estimates offer two useful guidelines for planning your day: an average time for a full tour and the time needed for a visit that takes in the whole park. Advance reservations are required for admission, with a visit date and arrival time. Tickets are not sold at the park.
There are several ways to get to the zoo from Santiago. From San Borja bus terminal, the “Buin–Maipo” and “Buin–Paine” routes go to a stop about 50 metres from the pedestrian entrance to Buin Zoo. By train, the journey from Estación Central to “Buin Zoo” station takes about 45 minutes; from there, a pedestrian bridge leads to the zoo. If Bioparque is a key reason for your trip, you can take these connections into account when planning your journey and consider staying in a holiday apartment in Buín.
Culture in Buín
Centro Cultural Maipo offers workshops, exhibitions and cultural activities in Buin. It adds a cultural offering to the focus on nature and wildlife. On 30 May 2026, Centro Cultural Maipo Iván Cortez Cruz opened the Templo Masónico de Buin to the public as part of the Día del Patrimonio 2026 celebrations. Guided tours of the premises were offered that day. They explained the architecture and furnishings, as well as the symbolism characteristic of the Masonic tradition. This opening took place on that specific date; the tours covered different aspects of the building.
Bioparque Buinzoo offers schools specially designed educational visits at discounted rates. These are available as either self-guided or guided visits and are tailored to the curriculum. This is a dedicated format for school visits, distinct from the two-hour guided tours for children and other park visitors.
If wildlife and Dino Parque are what you are most interested in, these offerings may be what makes Buín your destination. If you would also like to include cultural activities, Centro Cultural Maipo offers another local point of interest. Tailor your holiday apartment search to whether this mix of zoo visits and culture fits your travel plans.
