Placilla combines a rural townscape with a varied wine experience. In the historic centre, beautiful patronal houses with colonial architecture and large areas of agricultural land shape its character. There are also the more than 100-year-old vineyards of Viña Ravanal, which are still cultivated. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Placilla, these different highlights can guide your travel plans: wine experiences, local history, regional food and cultural discoveries each offer a different focus.

Experience Wine in Different Ways

At Viña Ravanal, the options range from guided tastings to activities where you can get hands-on. In one activity, visitors blend their own wine, bottle it, cork and cap it, and finally add a label to the bottle. The experience therefore includes several specific steps in the winemaking process. The guided tasting is different: it includes three wines and is available without advance booking.

The Viñedos Centenarios tour takes you through vineyards more than 100 years old, the winery and the barrel cellar. It also includes a guided tasting of four wines from the Gran Reserva and Premium ranges. This makes the tour different from the three-wine tasting both in the areas visited and in its scope. The Vendimia experience, in turn, focuses on the grapes: it includes grape harvesting and traditional grape stomping.

Momento Ravanal pairs a selected Reserva wine by the fire in the Grand Lounge of Wine with a cheese board and dried fruit. The experience also includes the use of electric bicycles for rides through the vineyards. When choosing between these options, you can be guided by your own interests: making wine yourself, discovering the vineyards and cellar, harvesting grapes, or pairing wine and food with a ride through the vineyards.

Historic Sites and Rural Townscape

Placilla’s history is also reflected in specific buildings. The Parroquia San Francisco de Asís in Placilla was founded in 1905; its patronal feast is celebrated on 4 October. The Estación de Ferrocarriles de Placilla dates from 1871 and consists of three typical buildings from the period in which it was built. The church and railway station thus represent different historical points of interest within the town. You can include these places in your travel plans if Placilla’s history interests you as well as its wine experiences.

In the municipality of Placilla, the archaeological Piedras Tacitas are located in the Rinconada de Manantiales sector. They are about 10,000 years old and protected under Article 21 of Chilean Law No. 17.288 on National Monuments. Also in the municipality, Fundo San Luis is listed in the cultural and tourism directory as a trekking destination. These two highlights offer a different perspective from the historic centre and wine experiences: archaeological remains and a designated trekking destination.

Regional Cuisine and Festivals

Typical dishes in Placilla Centro include Tortillas de rescoldo. At Viña Ravanal, the Almuerzo Sabores + tour Privado package includes a set three-course menu featuring local products. Regional cuisine and the winery’s offerings therefore add distinct aspects to your travel planning, without describing the same experience.

The second week of February is given for the Fiesta de la Huma, the fourth week of October for the Fiesta de la Cerveza y el Vino, and Chao Agosto is associated with the last Saturday in August. A public exhibition was also held for the first anniversary of Mercadito de Placilla. It featured handicrafts, leather goods, jams and honey.

When choosing where to stay, you can therefore consider whether you would most like to discover Placilla for its wine experiences, historic townscape or local cuisine. These different themes give your search for a holiday rental in Placilla a clear direction, without assuming a particular neighbourhood or accommodation amenities.
