Quillón: Lagoons, Wine and Textile Art
Accommodation in Quillón
Quillón brings together peaceful places and traditional craftsmanship with wine, lagoons and nature experiences. This gives you different ways to shape your stay: focus on culture and tastings, or on water and scenery. Families can also find a variety of themes to explore together.
Squares and textile traditions
Plaza de Armas is a peaceful place to rest and reflect. In summer, its large trees provide shade. Trattoria de la Palo is located at Plaza Cívica; check whether it is open before planning a visit.
A distinctive cultural thread leads to Matrimonio Ferrada. For more than 30 years, the couple has dedicated themselves to traditional Chilean textile art, making handwoven Mantas de Castilla in their workshop in Quillón. In doing so, they preserve an old technique from Chile’s rural textile tradition. Their craft offers a different perspective on the town from a day by the water: here, knowledge of materials and weaving techniques takes center stage.
The Ruta Turística del Vino is also connected to Plaza de Armas. The municipal cultural plan for 2018–2021 names the forecourt of Parroquia de la Inmaculada Concepción, next to the plaza, as the starting point. This is a useful reference for the historical route description; it does not guarantee that the route’s stops are currently operating.
Wine offerings and summer days
In the municipality of Quillón, Viñas Nobles offers wine and sparkling wine tastings, as well as guided tours of the winery and processing room. Viña Lomas de Quillón has a tasting room and sells directly to visitors, who can sample and choose products. Guided tours of the winery offer an insight into the production of wines and liqueurs. If you plan a tasting or tour, check the schedule in advance.
For a summer day, Parque Acuático Antü in the municipality of Quillón offers water slides, family pools and water games, as well as areas designed especially for children. The park is a seasonal attraction, so check when visits are possible during the summer season before making plans. Another family-oriented activity in the municipality is Bioparque Quillón, which offers an educational and recreational experience in close contact with wildlife. The animals listed include pumas, tigers, caimans, monkeys and various bird species; the animal population may change.
Lagoons and trails through the landscape
Laguna Avendaño in the municipality of Quillón was declared a protected area to safeguard its ecosystem; calm waters and green surroundings shape the landscape. Leisure activities listed at the lagoon include boat trips, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, short boat rides, pedal boats, swimming and low-intensity water sports. Splashing in the water and swimming lessons for children are also among the activities. Check current schedules for swimming lessons.
The Balneario at Laguna Avendaño has picnic areas, trails and viewpoints, and is considered a suitable place for family outings. Its infrastructure includes access routes and facilities for people with reduced mobility. Confirm the current conditions before visiting.
Laguna Coyanco in the municipality of Quillón offers a different natural setting. It is home to local bird species such as coots, herons and kingfishers. The shores are considered easy to access and invite visitors to enjoy the scenery, take photographs and go for peaceful walks away from the bustle of town.
Cascada Licura Bajo is located in the rural part of the municipality. Native vegetation, rocks and forest surround the waterfall, and the trails are easy. The site is considered a peaceful, family-friendly option for walks, photography and quiet contemplation. Those looking for longer nature excursions will find trekking routes and hiking trails through native forest at Cerro Cayumanqui. These nature experiences are quite different from the water activities at the lagoons.
