Discover El Remanso
Accommodation in El Remanso
A 2019 map lists El Remanso among the attractions around Coyhaique. This is a starting point for planning your trip. When looking for a vacation rental, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on: glaciers and water, mountains and hiking, or varied landscapes along a longer route? The Aisén Region offers several distinct examples of nature and travel to consider. You can decide what kind of stay you want before comparing specific accommodations.
The Aisén Region: Glaciers and Mountain Landscapes
The Parque Nacional Laguna San Rafael is in the Región Aysén. It is known for its glacier and Laguna San Rafael, where large blocks of ice break off from the glacier and fall into the water. In 1979, UNESCO declared the park a Biosphere Reserve. Possible activities include boating, fishing, excursions, observing flora and fauna, photography, and mountaineering. Which activities are accessible may vary by sector and season. The park therefore offers different options: you can focus on water and ice, nature observation, or activities in the mountains.
The Parque Nacional Cerro Castillo also showcases another side of the Aisén Region. Its landscape includes mountain formations, lagoons, rivers rich in water, dense native forests, and diverse Patagonian wildlife. The park is also an important habitat for the huemul (Hippocamelus bisulcus). Long hikes offer a chance to experience nature. Seasonal closures and guide requirements may change; take these into account when planning a hike.
Routes and Landscapes Along the Carretera Austral
The Carretera Austral is the main transport route through the Región Aysén and is more than 1,200 kilometers long. It passes native forests, glaciers, and crystal-clear rivers, as well as rugged fjords. It is a defining regional feature for an itinerary with changing landscapes, although road conditions may change. The Parque Nacional Queulat is also directly accessible via the Carretera Austral, or Ruta 7. The road crosses a large part of the park. Check current road conditions before your trip.
In the northeast of the Región Aysén, near La Junta, lies the Ruta de los Valles: a network of natural hiking trails. The route passes through glaciated valleys with lakes, rivers, waterfalls, evergreen forests, and native wildlife. Trail conditions and local access may vary. Those who enjoy walking will find a different travel experience here than on the long road route of the Carretera Austral.
Lagoons and Distinctive Local Scenery
The six-lagoon tourist route includes Laguna Burgos, Laguna Mercedes, Laguna Blanca, Laguna Espejo, Laguna Barroso, and Laguna Las Maletas. It is considered especially scenic and is suitable for photography. Another regional natural attraction, Laguna Cea, is used for swimming; people also fish there from boats, and triathletes train in the water. These examples offer different experiences: quiet time by the shore, fishing from a boat, or athletic swim training.
Caleta Tortel in the Aisén Region offers a very different local setting: the town is built over the water. Wooden walkways form the paths and connect the houses. Together with the glacier landscapes, lagoons, and hiking trails, this example shows how varied travel interests can be within the region. Consider which of these themes you want to shape your stay, and tailor your vacation rental search to that kind of trip.
