Vomo – Island Trails, Reef and Meke

Vomo combines long beaches with hilly island terrain and underwater experiences. Almost two-thirds of the island is hilly, while the beaches around Vomo stretch for about five kilometres. This creates a varied mix of exercise, time by the water and insights into local culture for families and other island guests.

Explore the Island on Foot

Several trails lead to the peaks of Mount Vomo. The trail to the summit is a short, steep walk of about 15 minutes; guests are encouraged to cover the route on foot or at a run. Those planning a longer outing can walk all the way around Vomo; this takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. Along the way are secluded beaches, rocky outcrops and beautiful swimming spots. The duration given refers to the full circuit, while the summit trail is a separate, shorter walking option.

Another trail runs around the base of Mt Vomo and takes about 30 minutes to reach an eastern hill at the far end of the island. A yoga platform is located there. Beaches and Reef Experiences

The outer reef protects the beaches around Vomo, which are suitable for swimming and snorkelling during the day. You can snorkel directly from all the beaches. Ocean Play provides masks, snorkels and fins free of charge for adults and children. Free watersports also include stand-up paddleboards, single and double kayaks, Hobie Cat sailing and windsurfing.

Every day at 11 am, VOMO offers a guided snorkelling safari for up to twelve guests. Accompanied by an Ocean Play guide, guests visit one of five nearby sites. Free guided snorkelling tours also go to the Coral Gene Bank, where knowledgeable guides explain the importance of coral conservation and life on the reef.

The Coral Gene Bank is an underwater stainless-steel installation: it lies 18 feet deep and extends for 60 feet. In February 2025, it housed more than 500 corals. During the hands-on Reef Restoration Dive, participants clean the stainless-steel art sculpture while the team cares for the corals. In addition to snorkelling, guests can take part in activities that help them learn more about reef conservation.

There are five dive sites around Vomo. They are a five- to ten-minute boat ride from the Activities Centre; their average depth is 12 to 20 metres, and they are considered shallow dives. VOMO offers PADI courses in English. The Open Water certification course includes four days of theoretical and practical training.

Culture and Activities for Different Age Groups

Every week, usually on Wednesday evening, VOMO hosts a Meke and Lovo evening for all guests. After the Meke, the chefs present a Fijian-inspired buffet featuring local ingredients and authentic island dishes. Teenagers aged ten and over can take Fijian cooking classes and watch weaving demonstrations at Club V.

The Kids' Village is accessible via a suspension bridge. It includes a playroom, kitchen, media room and playhouse, as well as covered play areas and climbing frames. There is also a BBQ and dining area, a dress-up wardrobe and craft tables. Handline fishing around Vomo is a way to introduce children to the joy of fishing. Fishing trips departing from VOMO can target large pelagic fish year-round and are operated by a third party. VOMO has a strict catch-and-release policy for all non-pelagic species.

There are activities away from the water too: VOMO has a free 9-hole pitch-and-putt golf course. Golf clubs for adults and children are available to borrow free of charge. The air-conditioned gym is in the centre of the island, next to the golf course and spa; it is open 24 hours a day and free for all guests to use.

Getting There and Choosing Your Accommodation Destination

Vomo can be reached by a 15-minute helicopter flight or a 40-minute speedboat ride. The island covers 255 acres and can be explored by guests; it is home to just one resort.
