Discover Orizaba
Accommodation in Orizaba
Orizaba offers a variety of things to discover: architecture and museums sit alongside a botanical garden and attractions featuring dinosaurs, dragons and a medieval jousting tournament. Your trip can therefore be shaped by art and history, nature or themed worlds. When choosing your vacation rental, it helps to first consider which of these sides of the city interests you most.
Museums and architecture
At the Museo de la Cerveza Orizaba, you can learn about the beer-making process and see an extensive collection of beer containers. This combines an insight into production with a collection whose objects are themselves the main focus. If you are interested in different kinds of collections, the Museo de Arte Popular de Veracruz offers a different focus: it showcases handicrafts from 24 communities. The pieces are grouped into four regional areas: Huasteca Veracruzana, Totonacapan Veracruzano, Altas Montañas and Sotavento. This layout gives the museum visit a regional context and helps guide you through its different sections.
The Palacio de Hierro was designed by Gustave Eiffel and inaugurated in 1894. The building houses five museums; its exterior balconies also offer an exceptional view of Orizaba’s historic center. Architecture, museums and the cityscape are different aspects of this same place. When deciding, you can consider whether you are most interested in the building’s history, the museums or the view over the historic center.
The Museo de Arte del Estado also has a historical connection: it is housed in a building that was used as the San Felipe Neri Oratory in 1776. The Poliforum Mier y Pesado, meanwhile, was declared a National Artistic Monument in February 2014 and features artistically landscaped gardens. These cultural destinations therefore differ not only in their collections or history, but also in the surroundings described for each one.
Discover the garden and the city
The Biori Botanical Garden brings together distinctive plants from all five continents. Another special feature is the “Los Pericos” aviary, home to more than 100 free-flying birds. If you want to make nature and plants the focus of your trip, the garden offers a different kind of discovery from the museums. You can take both into account when deciding what to focus on during your stay, without reducing these experiences to the same kind of outing.
The “Chipi Chipi” train travels through Orizaba and visits several of the city’s most important sights; the ride takes about an hour. It may also appeal if you would like to see several city sights as part of a single visit.
Different kinds of experiences
Orizaba also offers attractions with a very different feel: at Dinoparque, you can see dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptors. Nido de Dragones features dragons with sound and movement effects. Casavegas offers a medieval jousting tournament as well as various shows featuring fairies, witches, musicians, villagers and members of the royal family. If you are traveling with others, you can weigh up your group’s different interests when choosing which places to visit.
