In Villahermosa, you can therefore visit not only the poet’s museum, with its personal perspective, but also a museum focused on anthropology and regional culture.

The Museo de Cultura Popular Ángel Enrique Gil Hermida presents the cultural expressions of Tabasco’s people. These include dances of folk and Indigenous origin, as well as ethnographic objects, musical instruments and handicrafts. Other objects on display include a replica of a typical Chontal house and ceremonial items. A special exhibition is devoted to carving gourds and coconuts, one of Tabasco’s important craft traditions.

Casa de los Azulejos is one of the few surviving examples of 19th-century stately architecture in Villahermosa. The building houses the Museo de Historia de Tabasco. It offers temporary and permanent exhibitions, as well as recitals, documentary screenings, concerts, workshops, summer courses, guided tours, book presentations, discussions, theatre performances and conferences. Film enthusiasts can also attend international film screenings, film series and film discussions at the Sala de Arte Antonio Ocampo Ramírez.

A Trip to the Surrounding Area

ANP Yumka, near Villahermosa, is a protected ecological area with jungle and savanna sections, as well as recreational zones. On guided walks, visitors can observe free-roaming animals; a tour lasts approximately two hours. The trip complements the city’s parks and museums with insights into different types of landscape.
