From October to February, snorkelers and divers come to Los Barriles to observe rare groups of whale sharks in the sea. For a view of the bay of Los Barriles and the town’s main beach, visit Mirador de la Iglesia la Sagrada Familia. Visitors often stop there for a souvenir photo. Another photo stop is Letras Monumentales Los Barriles at the entrance to town from the direction of La Paz: the monumental letters are part of a design featuring an active fountain, with water falling onto decorative barrels.

Excursions in the Surrounding Area and Local Motifs

Playa Palo Blanquito is 13.7 kilometers from Los Barriles in the direction of El Cardonal, almost at Punta Pescadero Paradise. It can be reached via an unpaved track. This completely unspoiled beach has no services at all and is suitable for camping, picnicking, snorkeling, diving, and shore fishing. If you choose this beach as an excursion destination, you will find a different level of amenities there than at a place with services.

During the rainy season, from August to October, streams flow through the lush mountains to Cascada La Ciénega, which is 20 kilometers from Los Barriles. Visitors can hike, ride ATVs and racers, observe flora and fauna, and take landscape photographs there. The waterfall and the unspoiled Playa Palo Blanquito offer different excursion options: a mountainous landscape with streams on the one hand, and a beach with no services on the other.

Los Barriles itself also offers handcrafted items inspired by the sea. Handicrafts made from shells and sea snails are available, including combs, decorated mirrors, costume jewelry, and hand-painted decorative items with maritime motifs.
