Discover Cahuita
Accommodation in Cahuita
Cahuita can be explored through two themes closely connected to the town: Calypso culture and Cahuita National Park. The community is a gateway to the park, while the Calypso group Kawe Calypso comes from Cahuita. Nature and cultural tradition therefore stand side by side as different reasons to travel here. This is a good starting point for planning: consider whether you want to focus more on the musical tradition, the national park, or both.
Calypso as a cultural tradition
Members of Kawe Calypso teach children and young people from the Cahuita community the Calypso rhythm. This takes place through the “Calypso Cahuita Youth” project, which aims to carry on Calypso from Cahuita and Costa Rica. The music thus has a specific local connection and is also passed on to younger generations. For visitors interested in culture, this connection offers a distinctive perspective: the focus is both on a rhythm of its own and on passing it on.
The International Calypso Festival of Cahuita is also part of this cultural picture. Founded in 2013, it brings together Afro-Costa Rican culture with music, traditional food, and dance. Together with the youth project, it offers a broader view of Calypso in Cahuita: as music, as a form of cultural expression, and as part of a tradition that the project explicitly aims to carry on.
Walking trails in Cahuita National Park
The Playa Blanca entrance to the national park is right next to Cahuita. Nearby, walking trails can be reached via both the Playa Blanca sector and the Puerto Vargas sector. If you choose the park as your main focus, you have clear reference points to help you find your way: the entrance right beside Cahuita and the two sectors with trails leading into the park.
Perezoso and Eduardo are also two authorized and regulated trails in the national park. They pass areas with well-developed reefs; conditions may vary. The sectors refer to trail access points, while Perezoso and Eduardo are specific trails within the park. This distinction helps put the options into context without combining them into a single route.
Culture or nature as the focus of your trip
When looking for a vacation rental in Cahuita, you can start by deciding what kind of experience you want to define your stay. The Calypso theme connects you with the local musical tradition and how it is passed on; the national park offers a different focus, with access points and named walking trails. Both are part of Cahuita’s character, but they appeal to different interests. If you are passionate about culture, the project offers a concrete connection to the town. If you are mainly interested in nature, the Playa Blanca entrance and the park sectors provide an initial point of reference.
First decide whether you are mainly interested in Calypso culture, the trails in the national park, or a combination of both. Then you can search specifically for a vacation rental in Cahuita and choose the destination based on the interests that matter most for your trip.
