Ananuri: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes
The fortified castle complex of Ananuri preserves an upper and a lower fortress, defensive walls, towers, three churches, a bell tower, an octagonal cell, and a water reservoir. The buildings and structures date from the period between the 14th and 18th centuries.
Culture and History
Ananuri Fortress was associated with the feudal Aragvi family and controlled strategic roads. Later, King Erekle II counted Ananuri among Georgia’s seven strongest fortresses.
Since 2007, Ananuri has been on UNESCO’s Tentative List. This means that Georgia has identified the site for possible future nomination as a World Heritage Site.
