Kosson offers two different ways to explore the village’s history: the Eötvös Palace and the Reformed Church. The Kosino thermal complex in the surrounding area of Koson adds another destination for a day trip. This places historic buildings in the village alongside a thermal-water attraction as separate highlights for your trip.

Building history on two scales

The Eötvös Palace in Koson is the village’s oldest secular building. The single-storey estate was built in 1703 by the Rácz family. The term “secular” classifies the palace as a non-religious building and makes the comparison with the Reformed Church especially clear: both are part of the village’s history, but represent different types of buildings.

The Reformed Church is dedicated to Saint Catherine. It is located at 1 Kotolin Street and is used by the village’s Reformed congregation. It was remodelled between 1642 and 1654, when it acquired Renaissance features. These dates refer to the church’s remodelling; 1703 is the palace’s year of construction. This distinction helps put the two dates into context.

Visitors interested in history and architecture can therefore consider the buildings from different perspectives: the palace’s secular character, its single-storey design and the Rácz family are central to its story. For the church, its dedication, use by the congregation and the changes made during its remodelling are important points of interest. Together, they offer more than a single historical date—they reveal different aspects of village life.

A route through Koson

Koson is also included on a regional tourist route: the route passes through the village in the description of “Sribnyi trykutnyk Zakarpattia” (“Silver Triangle of Zakarpattia Oblast”), published in 2020. If you include this route idea in your plans, check the current waymarking. The description provides guidance on the route, but does not verify current signage or a specific route through the village.

Kosino and the thermal waters nearby

The Kosino thermal complex in the area surrounding Koson has five pools: three with thermal water and two with fresh water. The grounds also include a water park, a hotel, a spa and a restaurant. The complex adds a different travel interest to the historic highlights in the village; plan for it as a nearby destination.

The thermal water is drawn from wells more than 1,200 metres deep. Its temperature at the outlet is 42°C—the figure refers to the outlet temperature. Temporary renovations may result in closures. Check the current situation before visiting.

Which highlights suit your trip

When choosing a holiday apartment in Kosson, it may help to decide first what you want to focus on: would you mainly like to explore the village’s architectural history, or would you also like to include the nearby thermal complex in your plans? The church and the Eötvös Palace have specific historical details to discover; Kosino offers pools, a water park and other facilities on its grounds. This lets you distinguish between the experiences without treating them as one and the same place.

The route through Koson may also be relevant if you are interested in regional tours. The historic buildings, the route description and the nearby thermal attraction offer different highlights and do not all have to shape the same day’s itinerary.
