Haisyn brings together memorial sites, historic houses and museums with themes from regional folk culture. If you would like to focus your stay on culture, there are several ways to explore: remembrance of ATO participants, architecture from the turn of the 20th century, and exhibitions on the history of the city and region. You can choose what to discover based on the topics that interest you most.

Memorial Sites and City History

In 2017, the Alley of Glory and the Park of Remembrance and Glory of ATO Participants were established in central Haisyn. These two named memorial sites keep the memory of ATO participants present in the city centre. The Culture and Recreation Park, named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky, commemorates a different aspect of the past: 350 fallen soldiers are buried in a mass grave there.

The ATO Museum is another place that explores Haisyn’s history from different perspectives. On 16 October 2024, it invited residents of the Haisyn community and visitors to the city to attend general and themed guided tours. The invitation applied to this specific date and was addressed to both of the visitor groups mentioned.

Architecture with Distinctive Features

The mansion of timber merchant Shpilberg is a brick building dating from the turn of the 20th century. A decorative frieze and an ornamented roof structure give the building distinctive architectural details. The mansion of lawyer Litvakovsky has a different character: it is an early 20th-century architectural monument in the Art Nouveau style. Together, the two houses show how differently the architecture of the period can be described—one through individual façade features, the other through style and period.

Museums Between Everyday History and Folk Culture

The Haisyn Local History Museum was founded in 1995 by veterans of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence as a museum of a veterans’ association. It is housed in the former home of the boys’ gymnasium director, an architectural monument dating from the early 20th century. Its collection ranges from weapons from the Second World War and military clothing to urban and rural everyday objects from the 20th century. Icons, folk ceramics, and Ukrainian decorative and applied arts broaden this view of everyday life and design.

The exhibition covers additional themes: Ukrainian statehood, events of the Second World War in the Haisyn region, the partisan movement, the region’s natural environment, and the traditional way of life of its residents. This places political and regional history alongside themes of nature and everyday life. The exhibition of the Hnat Tantsiura Museum Collection has a different focus. This cultural and educational centre is dedicated to researching and presenting oral folk traditions, folklore, and the songs of the Haisyn region. Its exhibition comprises more than 4,000 museum objects; collection figures may change.

This distinction can help you choose your outings: the Local History Museum brings together history, everyday objects, and crafts, while the Hnat Tantsiura Museum Collection focuses on regional traditions and songs. If you are travelling with children, you can think together about which of these topics they are most curious about. This gives your search for a holiday rental in Haisyn a practical connection to your planned stay: the key question is whether you would most like to explore memorial history, architecture, or regional culture.
