Discover Ternopil Oblast through a variety of experiences: a visitor route leads into Kryshtaleva Cave, trails explore forest and highlands, and historic sites add cultural highlights. This variety is especially useful when planning your trip. First consider whether you would like to focus on a cave tour, outdoor activities or architecture. This decision gives you a clear direction when looking for a base for your holiday apartment.

Kryshtaleva Cave near Kryvche

The visitor route through Kryshtaleva Cave is 2.5 kilometres long and takes an hour and a half. This makes it easy to plan the cave visit as a separate activity. Some sections outside the visitor route are closed to tourists to protect the cave’s microclimate and the growth and preservation of its crystals. The route and the protected areas are therefore distinct parts of the cave experience.

Cycling routes and nature trails in the Kremenets Mountains

In 2024, four cycling routes with a total length of more than 240 kilometres were designated in the Kremenets Mountains National Nature Park. That same year, there were ten ecological-tourism routes totalling 33 kilometres. These are two distinct route categories, each with its own total: the more than 240 kilometres refers to the cycling routes, while the 33 kilometres refers to the ecological-tourism routes. This distinction can help you decide whether to look for cycling routes or ecological-tourism routes as you plan your trip.

One specific example of a trail in this landscape is the 6.2-kilometre Bohit Trail. It passes through typical Medobory forest stands to Mount Bohit. At 414 metres, Mount Bohit is the highest peak in the nature reserve and Husiatyn District. The trail also leads to a well-preserved place of worship. Scientists believe that the statue of Zbruch Sviatovit once stood there, so this former connection is a scientific hypothesis.

Zbarazh Castle and the Pochaiv Lavra

More than 35 exhibition halls at Zbarazh Castle house permanent exhibitions on archaeology, ethnography, regional crafts, weapons, sacred art and numismatics. There is also an organ hall. The exhibitions thus bring together many different subjects rather than focusing on a single collection area.

The Holy Dormition Pochaiv Lavra offers a different architectural highlight. It is a significant ensemble in the centre of Pochaiv, on a rocky hill at the foothills of the Kremenets Mountains. Zbarazh Castle offers a broad range of cultural subjects through its exhibitions; the Lavra’s architectural character is shaped by both its ensemble and its described location.

Experiences to guide your accommodation search

Together, these named destinations offer different starting points for your trip: a cave route with a set duration, trails through forests and highlands, exhibitions and an architectural ensemble. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide which of these experiences you want to shape your stay. This lets you guide your further search by your travel interests rather than treating all the places as alike.
