Kirovohrad Oblast: Parks, Museums and Nature
Accommodation in Kirovohrad Oblast
A dendrological park with more than 2,000 plant species, a museum reserve with around 2,000 exhibits and an underground command post offer very different experiences. Kirovohrad Oblast thus provides specific themes for a trip among landscaped grounds, collections and the history of technology. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, it is worth first considering which of these experiences you want to focus on during your stay.
Park Landscapes and Botanical Diversity
Onufriivka Park is a 51-hectare landscape and park complex of national importance in the valley of the Omelnyk River. Its amenities include pavilions for relaxation. Its size, location in the river valley and park character give the site a strong landscape focus; the pavilions add a specific feature of the grounds.
More than 2,000 plant species grow in the «Veseli Bokovenky» dendrological park. Five sections recreate, on a small scale, natural landscapes from particular geographic zones. Botanical diversity and designed landscapes therefore sit side by side. The park is a garden monument of national importance and covers 109 hectares. Including the selection and dendrology station, the stated area is 543 hectares.
The «Kropyvnytskyi» dendrological park offers a different focus: its well-maintained, 44-hectare grounds include walkways, benches, pavilions, lighting and fountains. An open-air concert hall is intended for cultural events. There are also attractions for children and families, as well as extreme attractions. The grounds thus combine park amenities with an event venue and different types of attractions.
Collections and History
The collection of the «Khutir Nadiia» museum reserve comprises around 2,000 exhibits, many of which were donated by the Tobilevych–Tarkovsky family. The grounds of «Khutir Nadiia» include more than 11 hectares of protected, picturesque parkland, with historical, architectural, monumental and garden-art features. A pond, a spring and a well with mineral drinking water are also part of the site. The collection and park offer different points of interest for visitors.
The Strategic Missile Forces Museum displays more than 3,000 exhibits on the history of the USSR Strategic Missile Forces and the regiment whose personnel performed combat duty. The collection thus has a clear focus on military history and differs thematically from the botanical sites in the oblast.
Beekeeping, Views and Underground Architecture
The Karaush family apiary in the village of Chervone offers an excursion program. It is led by professional beekeeper Oleksandr Karaush, chairman of the «Travnevyi med» association. Honey tasting is also available. Check that tasting is currently available before making plans.
The observation tower at the «Haidamatska Sich» Cossack complex offers views from above. Another striking feature is a 155-metre-long underground passageway leading to an underground command post. The post is designed to operate fully autonomously for 45 days.
When choosing a holiday apartment, you can start by deciding which experiences you want to shape your trip. A focus on parks differs from a trip centred on collections or the beekeeping program.
