Kharkiv Oblast offers different ways to explore nature and history: amphitheatre-shaped garden design, forests and lakes, historic sites, museums and memorials. When choosing a holiday apartment, it helps to first decide which places and themes you want to shape your stay. This way, your search is guided by specific interests—such as nature, architecture or history.

River Landscapes and Botanical Diversity

Homilshanski Lisy National Nature Park stretches along the banks of the Siverskyi Donets and the Homilsha River. Numerous lakes and centuries-old forests shape its landscape. The park is home to wild boar, roe deer, deer and numerous bird species. Among its natural features is a 600-year-old oak, described as the oldest oak in Ukraine. Around 1,000 plant species also grow there, including more than 100 rare species. The nature park is currently temporarily closed; visits to the forests are restricted. Take the temporary closure and restricted forest visits into account when planning your nature outings.

The Singing Terraces in Horodne offer a very different garden theme: an orchard shaped like an amphitheatre, considered significant for all of Europe. The combination of an orchard and an amphitheatre-shaped layout makes this a distinctive example of garden landscape in Kharkiv Oblast.

Garden Art and Historic Sites

A manor with a two-storey palace of castle and park architecture has been preserved in Sharivka. The palace was built in the Gothic style in the first half of the 19th century. The oblast’s tourist information service counts Sharivka Park among the region’s special parks. Nataliivka Park is also among these special parks. The Nataliivka complex in Krasnokutsk Raion is an ensemble of garden and park art.

The regional route “Old Estates of the Kharkiv Region” includes the “Sharovskyi” garden and park ensemble in Sharivka and the “Nataliivka” estate in Volodymyrivka as destinations. Another botanical theme is the Krasnokutsk Dendrological Park, featuring plants from Japan, China, Western Europe, North America and South America. The selection reflects different interests within the park landscape: historic architecture and garden art on the one hand, and plant life from different continents on the other.

Museums and Historic Memorial Sites

The National Memorial Complex “Height of Marshal I. S. Konev” is located at the site of the forward command post of Marshal of the Soviet Union I. S. Konev, commander of the Steppe Front. From there, on 22 August 1943, he ordered the attack to liberate the city of Kharkiv. This historical connection gives the site a clearly defined role among the region’s memorial sites.

In Chuhuiv, the I. Y. Repin Art and Memorial Museum is dedicated to the painter. A route on the “Golden Ring of Slobozhanshchyna” leads to I. Y. Repin’s birthplace in Chuhuiv and includes a visit to the museum. Its collection includes antique furniture, clothing, weapons, awards, ethnographic materials, archaeological finds, documents and photographs from various years. The Hryhorii Skovoroda National Literary and Memorial Museum in Skovorodynivka is one of three state literary and memorial museums in Ukraine dedicated to Skovoroda.

Nearby, at the travel destination of Koropove, the remains of the Sviato-Mykolaiv Monastery have been preserved. Zaporizhzhia Cossacks founded the monastery in 1648. The region’s selection therefore brings together very different historical themes: a memorial site connected with the history of the Second World War, an art and memorial museum, a literary museum and preserved monastery remains.
