Donetsk Oblast offers a wide range of starting points for a trip: chalk mountains and striking cliffs, nature parks linked to rivers and the sea, as well as religious and cultural sites. First consider which themes interest you most. This can also help you focus your search for a holiday apartment on places that suit your travel plans.

Nature and Chalk Landscapes

Sviati Hory National Nature Park lies in the Sviatohirsk community along the Siverskyi Donets River. The park has two ecological educational trails: “Zustrich” and “Dubovyi hai.” The “Dubovyi hai” trail passes a patriarch oak described as 600 years old. The tree is 29 m tall, has a diameter of 2 m and a trunk circumference of 6.3 m.

Excursion and tourist routes also pass through the chalk mountains, which are also called the Holy Mountains. Thus, the same nature park features both a named educational trail with a notable tree and paths through a chalk mountain landscape. These two themes offer different perspectives on the park’s natural environment.

Another striking chalk site is the cliffs near Bilokuzmynivka. They are considered a geological natural monument of local significance and lie 500 m from the centre of Bilokuzmynivka in Kostiantynivka Raion. Their designated significance and precise location relative to the town centre make them a clearly situated nature attraction within the oblast.

Lakes, Rivers and Natural Heritage

Meotida National Nature Park brings together a different range of landscape features: sea spits, salt lakes, small rivers, warm sea waves, reed beds, saline soils, steppe slopes and granite rock. This diversity differs markedly from the chalk mountains and cliffs.

Kleban-Byk Regional Landscape Park is another named nature destination in the oblast. It is described as one of the places in Donetsk Oblast with particularly beautiful nature and good opportunities for recreation. Together with the chalk formations and the features of Meotida Park, it shows how varied the region’s natural attractions are.

Religious and Cultural Sites

The Sviatohirsk Dormition Monastery is a religious, architectural and natural heritage complex. It is one of the oldest spiritual and cultural centres in eastern Ukraine. Its classification as a complex brings together religious and cultural heritage with architecture and nature—a different travel perspective from the nature parks and chalk landscapes.

St. Nicholas Church in Druzhkivka was included in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine as a cultural monument of national significance. Its inclusion was reported in April 2026. The church adds an example of a cultural monument of national significance to the region’s natural and cultural heritage sites.

Choosing the Right Focus for Your Stay

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Donetsk Oblast, the named places can serve as starting points for choosing where to go next. Consider whether you are particularly interested in chalk landscapes, nature park areas, or religious and architectural heritage. If you are travelling together, it is also worth comparing interests: this can help you decide which focus should take priority when searching for a place to stay, without combining the different themes into a single route.
