Ordzhonikidze is suited to travellers considering both cultural history and time outdoors during their stay. The Mykola Zanudko City Museum of History and Local Lore and the parks offer different experiences: the museum focuses on city history and archaeology, while Borys Mozolevskyi Park brings together several described options for activities and breaks.

City History and Archaeology at the Museum

The city museum preserves materials about archaeologist Borys Mozolevskyi and the history of the world-famous Golden Pectoral, a symbol of Ukrainian cultural heritage. A municipal description from 2017 describes historical finds in the Scythian Hall, including finds from Tovsta Mohyla. An exhibition panel there presents materials about Mozolevskyi. Archaeological finds and the archaeologist himself are thus presented as two distinct museum topics.

Guided tours are also described as part of the museum’s offerings: a municipal report dated 23 October 2024 mentions themed, interactive tours about the history of Pokrov, the region and the country. Schoolchildren and city residents are named as target groups. If you plan to join a tour, ask about current dates in advance.

A municipal description from 2019 notes that the museum was adapted for visitors with special needs. This included removing physical barriers, applying universal design principles and offering ways to experience information through touch, hearing and feeling. If these aspects are important to your planning, check the current situation before your visit.

Parks with Different Features

Borys Mozolevskyi Park covers 8.6 hectares. Its chess avenue was established in the northeastern part of the park in July 2018. There are eight granite tables: four with chess markings, two with backgammon markings and two without markings. A municipal description from 2021 also mentions free loans of chess, draughts and backgammon sets from the park administration building. If you would like to borrow a set, check its current availability in advance.

The 2021 park description also lists a musical fountain, a skate park, a children’s playground and a fitness area with exercise equipment. The options described therefore range from table games to exercise and a play area. Hirnykiv Park offers a different named feature: a municipal description from 2021 mentions a children’s playground and a fitness area with exercise equipment there. At the time of this description, reconstruction and improvement work was still under way in the park.

This makes it possible to balance cultural interests and outdoor activities when planning your day. At the museum, historical finds and Mozolevskyi’s work on the Golden Pectoral are a focus; Borys Mozolevskyi Park is described as having, among other things, chess and backgammon tables. Those wishing to include a playground or exercise equipment will find these features mentioned in descriptions of both parks as well. When looking for a holiday apartment, first choose the focus that you want to shape your stay: a museum visit, time in the park or a mix of both. The offerings mentioned differ in content and activity, not in any documented accommodation feature.
