Sedniv brings together parkland, distinctive buildings and stories connected with the Lyzohub estate. A rotunda above the Snov River, two churches with very different building histories, and exhibitions on energy supply in Chernihiv Oblast give the town several cultural facets. If you are looking for a holiday rental, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your trip: landscape and architecture, church and family history, or the history of technology.

Parkland and the Rotunda above the Snov

Sedniv Park, now Taras Shevchenko Park, is part of the Lyzohub estate. It has been protected as a garden and park art monument since 1972. It is laid out in the English, informal style—a form of park design that prioritises an open landscape layout over strict geometric order.

Hlibov’s gazebo is also located in the park of the Lyzohub family estate. Its eight columns form a rotunda on the slope of a high hill above the Snov River. It was built in the first half of the 19th century. The informal park design and the rotunda’s clear form create two distinct features: here, you can take in both the grounds as a whole and a single architectural structure.

Churches with Different Histories

The Church of the Resurrection was built in 1690 and was originally called the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God. It served as the Lyzohub family’s burial vault. Its construction date, original name and function combine to tell a particularly specific story of the place.

Sedniv’s wooden St George’s Church offers a different perspective on church architecture. Dating from the mid-18th century, it is considered a rare example of monumental Baroque wooden architecture in Left-Bank Ukraine. Compared with the Church of the Resurrection, it is above all the wooden construction and Baroque style that stand out; the two churches thus represent different aspects of Sedniv’s cultural history.

The Lyzohub family estate is also associated with well-known names: Taras Shevchenko, Lev Zhemchuzhnikov, Leonid Hlibov, Borys Hrinchenko and Opanas Slastion visited it at different times. These visits were not part of a single episode, but represent separate historical connections to the estate.

The History of Technology and Early History

The exhibitions at the Energy Museum of Chernihiv Oblast in Sedniv cover the development of the region’s energy supply from 1895 to the present day. The materials on display include maps showing electrification, equipment and devices—from the first lanterns to modern transformers. Numerous photographs and documents complement the collection. Technical objects are thus presented alongside maps and visual materials illustrating different forms of energy supply.

The Sedniv hillfort of the chronicle town of Snovsk offers another historical perspective. It is an archaeological monument dating from the Late Middle Ages. While the park, churches and Energy Museum explore different histories of architecture and technology, the hillfort points to the archaeological history of the place.

When choosing a holiday rental in Sedniv, you can first ask yourself which of these facets you want to shape your trip: the park and its architecture, the history of the churches and the Lyzohub estate, or the development of energy supply. This choice helps you focus on Sedniv as a destination without assuming that a particular range of accommodation amenities is required.
