Zolotonosha combines an early urban history with protected buildings and a broad range of botanical attractions. The former uses of buildings and their architectural styles sit alongside a large collection of trees and shrubs. The town therefore offers different starting points for your travel interests.

Buildings with Different Histories

In 1666, during the Pereiaslav Uprising, the fortress of Zolotonosha was considered impregnable. It stood on the grounds of today’s General Education School No. 3. This specific location makes the passage of time tangible: the fortress belongs to the history of the uprising, while the present-day reference point is the school grounds.

The building erected in 1910 for the former private Marynych-Yakovenko Theatre is an example of a later architectural history. Today it houses the district cultural centre; the building is also protected as an architectural monument of local significance. Here, its former function as a theatre, present-day use, and heritage protection come together. The former Zemstvo administration building and the former home of Verbytskyi’s private pharmacy are also architectural monuments of local significance. Their former functions broaden the picture to include administrative and pharmaceutical history.

The Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God also displays a distinctive architectural aspect. Built in 1745, it is classified as being in the old Ukrainian style. Its conical domes were modelled on Indian pagodas. The cathedral can therefore be described in terms of two specific features: its stylistic classification and the distinctive shape of its domes.

Dendrological Park and Natural Monuments

The dendrological park was established in 1962. It covers 9 hectares and contains a collection of 25,000 trees and shrubs; it is also protected as a garden monument of local significance. Its area and the size of its collection describe two different aspects of the park. It also serves as a venue for practical lessons for school students, bringing together a collection of woody plants, heritage protection, and learning.

The botanical attractions also include four natural monuments of local significance: exotic Japanese pagoda trees, a pyramidal oak, sumac trees, and a planting of weeping willows. The list includes both individual tree species and a planting. Together with the dendrological park’s collection, they give Zolotonosha’s natural attractions several distinct facets.

Cultural Tradition and Choosing a Holiday Apartment

The “Marigolds” festival is also part of the city’s cultural heritage and has become a well-established tradition in Zolotonosha. It adds a distinct cultural note to the historic buildings and botanical attractions.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment as a family, you can start by considering your group’s interests: are you more interested in historic buildings and their former uses, or would you prefer to focus on the park, its trees and shrubs, and its botanical natural monuments? This comparison can help you choose the focus you want for your stay, without ranking the different themes in general.
