Epalinges is situated at an elevated position above Lausanne, approximately 400 meters above the water level of Lake Geneva.
Epalinges lies at an altitude of 785 meters above sea level, approximately 4 km northeast of Lausanne, on the southern slope of the Jorat in the Vaud Mittelland.
The municipality encompasses part of the southern Jorat, which is characterized by small valleys. The valleys of the Flon and the Flon Morand border the municipality, while several tributaries of the Flon originate locally.
Bois de la Chapelle is the largest wooded area in Epalinges, and the highest point of the municipality reaches 850 meters on the Jorat plateau.
