Geographical Location

Morgins is a holiday resort in the canton of Valais and politically belongs to the municipality of Troistorrents in the district of Monthey. The resort is located at an altitude of 1,333 metres in the Val de Morgins, a side valley of the Val d’Illiez in Chablais.

Nature and Landscape

Le Va and Tête de la Torrens are located in the immediate surroundings of Morgins. Pointe de Grange and Pointe de Vorlaz are situated in the surrounding area. Le Pâqueret lies further afield in the region.

The Lac de Morgins is located within the territory of Morgins at an altitude of 1,367 metres above sea level. It covers 16.5 hectares and has been protected since 1978. In the Chablais massif, the protected area around the lake is considered an area with diverse fauna and flora.

Activities and Border Region

Morgins is connected to the Portes du Soleil winter sports area and contributed to cross-border cooperation between Swiss and French ski resorts: in 1961, the resort agreed on cooperation with Châtel, which contributed to the creation of this French-Swiss ski area.

In summer, there are numerous hiking trails and a cross-border network of mountain bike routes. The road through Morgins leads to the Pas de Morgins and connects Valais with Haute-Savoie in France.

History

From the 1820s onwards, Morgins developed into a spa resort through the tourist use of its iron-rich water. The former Grand Hôtel des Bains accommodated spa guests from England, Germany and France.
