Geographical Location

Gresso is a village in the municipality of Onsernone in Ticino and was an independent political municipality until 9 April 2016.

The village is located at an altitude of around 999 metres above sea level, at the southwestern foot of Pizzo Peloso, in the Valle di Vergeletto, a northern side valley of the Onsernone Valley.

Gresso comprises the village of Gresso and the western exclave of Alla Ca’. It also includes the alpine settlement of Mónt, which lies at an altitude of 1,340–1,410 metres above sea level.

History

Gresso was first mentioned in 1266. In 1898, graves containing pottery and coins from the Roman period were discovered there.
