Geographical Location

Triboltingen is a roadside village at the foot of the Seerücken on the Untersee between Tägerwilen and Ermatingen. The village is accessed via the main road from Schaffhausen to Kreuzlingen; since 1998, Triboltingen has also had a stopping point on the parallel Lake Line railway.

A discovered fire trench dating from the first century indicates an earlier Roman settlement; the village itself was founded by the Alemanni.

Around 950, according to Duke Hermann of Swabia, Triboltingen was donated to Reichenau Abbey. The place was first mentioned as “Triboltingin” in a chronicle about the famine of 1146, in connection with the flight of the people of Triboltingen to the nearby Petershausen Monastery in Constance.
