History

Frauenfeld was first mentioned in writing around 1246. The city developed around Frauenfeld Castle on land belonging to Reichenau Abbey.

In 1264, Frauenfeld became Habsburg property. In 1374, the Habsburgs granted Frauenfeld judicial rights for the entire Thurgau region, which at that time also included St. Gallen.

In the 18th century, Frauenfeld was partially destroyed by fires twice, in 1771 and 1788.
