History and Culture

The chronicle of Uznach records the founding of the town in the years 1228–1229 and mentions Uznaberg Castle for the period from 1234 to 1268.

The municipal chronicle records a Romanesque church between 1200 and 1300 as the centre of a large parish; the St. Michael's Chapel was founded in 1317. It also records a market, trade and crafts in Uznach for the year 1387.

Uznach's history includes the construction of a new Gothic parish church, the Church of the Cross, between 1494 and 1505, as well as the construction of St. Joseph's Chapel in 1664.
