Land and landscape

Fehren is a municipality in the Thierstein district, in the canton of Solothurn, Switzerland.

The village lies at approximately 587 m above sea level on an elevated slope at the northern foot of Mettenberg, overlooking the Laufen basin.

Part of the northern Jura belongs to the municipality. To the east, its territory extends as far as the Ibach; there, a gorge-like valley lies between Mittlerberg and Eichlenberg.

Fehren lies approximately 6.5 km east-southeast of Laufen as the crow flies. This distance provides a clear geographical orientation in relation to Laufen.

Land use in Fehren is predominantly agricultural; in 2014, 53% of the municipal area was recorded as agricultural land and 30% as forest and woodland.
