Le Grand-Saconnex is a municipality in the canton of Geneva, Switzerland.

History

The municipality has historical ties to Bernese rule, France and the Swiss canton of Geneva: in 1536, it came under Bernese rule; from 1601, it belonged to France; and in 1815, it became part of Switzerland and the canton of Geneva.

Development and Present Day

Between Geneva and Geneva Airport, Le Grand-Saconnex developed into a suburban centre in the 1960s.

Many organisations are headquartered in Le Grand-Saconnex; the Palexpo exhibition complex is also located there.

Le Grand-Saconnex is served by the Geneva trolleybus operated by Transports publics genevois. Part of Geneva Airport and the Genève-Aéroport railway station are located within the municipality.
