Culture and History

Wiedlisbach has a well-preserved medieval town centre. In 1974, the municipality received the Henri-Louis Wakker Prize, followed in 1975 by an award from the Council of Europe for the exemplary preservation of its townscape.

Finds from the Bronze Age, the Roman period and the Early Middle Ages have been recorded in the area around Wiedlisbach. A Roman estate stood southeast of the town until at least the 3rd century, approximately 700 metres from the town; a High Medieval castle complex is suspected to have stood on the Walkihügel.

The historic town plan forms a closed rectangle with a main street and a parallel side street. It is surrounded by a circular wall that is approximately 9 metres high and about 1.7 metres thick.
