History and Townscape
The Parkhotel and other grand hotels in Gunten are architecturally and historically significant as only slightly altered witnesses to the heyday of tourism and form part of the loosely connected chain of grand hotels along the lake.
The Hotel Oberland is a three-storey half-timbered building with wooden shingles dating from the late 19th century, featuring a solid basement level, a row of supported balconies and elaborate fretwork ornamentation.
The main street in the centre of Gunten has retained its original narrow dimensions and leads without a pavement from the acute-angled junction with Seestrasse, past the village square, to the stream bridge.
