History

The documented settlement history of Unterkulm dates back to 1045. At that time, the former Roman estate name Columbaria first appeared as the name of the village and settlement. In 1295, the village split into the politically independent municipalities of Oberkulm and Unterkulm.

Unterkulm has held market rights since 1818; the village continues to be described as hosting four markets each year.
