Vieska: Holiday Apartment, History and Landscape

Vieska is located in the Danube Lowland, in the central part of Žitný ostrov. The cadastral area of Blatná lúka in Vieska extends to the Malý Dunaj and also includes the Klátovské rameno, or rather its former river channel without a continuous water surface. The protection requirements of the Klátovské rameno National Nature Reserve must be observed in Vieska’s planning area. The European Site of Importance SKUEV0822 Malý Dunaj also borders the planning area directly.

Landscape

The Malý Dunaj, with its accompanying woodland and the alluvial forest areas partly enclosed within its meanders, is an important positive landscape element. Vieska is therefore situated at the meeting point of the wide-open Danube Lowland, the river landscape of the Malý Dunaj and an area subject to special protection requirements. The former river channel of the Klátovské rameno expressly forms part of the Blatná lúka cadastral area, even though there is no continuous water surface there.

History

Vieska was first mentioned in 1322 under the name Kysfeuldi. Until the mid-19th century, the village was a noble estate. The more prominent families who owned property in Vieska included the Nagyovci. In the oldest built-up areas along Hlavná and Veľká Streets, the rural historical character and historic layout are intended to be preserved.

Villagescape and Monuments

Several small monuments and sacred structures are scattered throughout the village. The Pietà sculpture ensemble at 154 Hlavná Street depicts a seated Madonna holding the dead Christ in her arms. The Pietà sculpture ensemble at the intersection of Športová, Agátová and Ružová Streets near the sports field is dated 1898.

A wayside chapel with a statue of Ružencová Panna Mária stands at 60 Hlavná Street. The original wayside chapel at this address dates from 1892 and was reconstructed in 1995. The local cemetery contains the main cross from 1863, which was restored in 1991. It is also home to the monument to the soldiers who fell in the Second World War, erected in 1992. The names of 18 fallen residents of Vieska are carved into this monument.

The bell tower in the cemetery dates from 1993 and has one bell. Another bell tower stands on Hlavná Street and also has one bell.

Cycling and Water

The marked Galantský cyklookruh cycle route runs through Vieska along an existing farm track. In addition, cycle route 5232 passes through Vieska along a 2.4-kilometre stretch. The Štrkovisko Vieska fishing water covers 1.5 hectares and has a stable water level.

Community Life

On 23 May 2026, the Municipality of Vieska will hold a cauldron cooking competition together with a children’s day at the local football field.
