Discover Trakovice: History, Culture and Holiday Apartment

The most significant monument in Trakovice is considered to be the Church of Saint Stephen, the King. Its originally Classicist building dates from 1811; the single-nave church has an integrated tower and a semicircular presbytery.

Culture

Among the town's special historical testimonies is the oldest stone sculpture in Trakovice: a statue of the Virgin Mary erected in 1884 by Pavol Bučko and restored in 1999 by his grandson Štefan Bučko. The sandstone crosses from the 19th and 20th centuries in the local cemetery are of historical significance. They originate from stonemasonry workshops in Dobrá Voda. Trakovice also has a small chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk, which was restored in more recent times.

Further historical details can be found in individual works of art and memorial objects. The painting of Saint Alexius dates from 1792 and was created by the painter Jozef Brandt from Hlohovec. A statue of Saint Vendelin was erected and installed by the Dudváh stream in 1885.

History

The area of the municipality of Trakovice was settled in the Neolithic period, the Early Bronze Age, the Late Iron Age, the Roman period and the Slavic period. Archaeological finds in Trakovice include a Neolithic settlement of the Lengyel culture. The settlement area of this culture extends beyond the cadastral boundaries of the municipalities of Žlkovce and Trakovice.

Nature and Townscape

The Dudváh stream flows through the eastern part of the built-up area of the municipality of Trakovice from north to south. The local landscape includes remnants of cherry orchards on Maksavy (Linaje), pear orchards along the road to Malženice and lime trees in the cemetery. Individual mulberry and apricot trees have also been preserved in private gardens.

Panšula is also associated with a history of fruit growing and horticulture. Jozef Šesták planted, grafted and cultivated wild fruit trees there. Schoolchildren received practical instruction in fruit growing and horticulture at this site.

Cultural Programme

Divadlo na TrakOch has operated continuously since 2001. The amateur theatre prepares smaller or larger performances every year. Since 2002, it has organised annual Saint Nicholas performances for children together with the Trakovice municipal office.

Trakovice's regular cultural programme includes a hunters' ball, a gardeners' ball and a country ball. Other events include putting up the maypole, a cultural programme for children on International Children's Day, fruit and vegetable exhibitions, meetings with senior citizens, Saint Nicholas events, the end-of-summer celebration, Mother's Day and an open-air cinema.

Connections and Routes

Trakovice is served by regular SAD bus connections and has six bus stops. State road II/513 runs through the centre on the Trakovice–Hlohovec–Nitra route. In the western part of the cadastral area, it connects to state road I/61 on the Trnava–Piešťany route. In the eastern part, II/513 leads to the D1 motorway, an international road corridor of the E75.

The municipality of Trakovice rates the opportunities for cycling tours along the Dudváh, with a connection to Trnava via the Považská Route, as very good. The opportunities for walks and hiking are also rated as very good.
