Drienica lies beneath the southern slopes of the Čergov Mountains and ranges in elevation from 375 to 1,068 m. When choosing a holiday apartment in Drienica, you can consider the named landscape, trail, mountain sports and cultural features in context.

Landscape and nature

Drienica has 601.78 hectares of forest. The cadastral area belongs to the CHVÚ Čergov, a 35,849.71-hectare bird protection area. The CHVÚ Čergov serves to protect habitats of bird species of European importance and habitats of migratory bird species.

Hiking

Hiking focuses on a circular route and marked connections with different sequences of locations. The recommended Okruh Besná circular route is 5.5 km long; the stated walking time is 2:02 hours. The blue-marked hiking trail 2845 runs through the cadastral area of the municipality of Drienica, from Škola v prírode Drienica via the Besná saddle to Podbaranie. The green-marked hiking trail 5708 leads from Sabinov via Červená voda and Lysá to the Čergov saddle and onward to Hertník.

The hiking information distinguishes between different forms of trails: Okruh Besná is identified as a route in its own right, while the two marked trails each describe a sequence of starting and destination locations via saddles and other trail waypoints. Thus, a self-contained route stands alongside longer connections involving several locations and terrain points. The names Škola v prírode Drienica, Besná, Podbaranie, Sabinov, Červená voda, Lysá, Čergov and Hertník make the course of the described trails clearly traceable.

Cycling and mountains

In summer, SKI LYSÁ offers mountain biking supported by a chairlift up to Lysá and across the peaks of the Čergov Mountains. In summer, the SKI LYSÁ chairlift transports visitors, together with their bicycles or wearing trekking shoes, uphill. SKI LYSÁ has three new singletrack trails.

A 946-metre-long and 2.5-metre-wide cycle path runs along the Drienický potok Šomka. It is illuminated and marked for traffic purposes. The newly built cycle path is intended for cyclists and pedestrians.

Culture and history

The religious buildings are placed in a historical context through specific construction dates, restoration work and liturgical tradition. The Chrám Narodenia Presvätej Bohorodičky was completed in 1811 and dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The single-nave building has a porch tower incorporated into the gable façade. The Kaplnka sv. Jána Evanjelistu was built in 1822 and extensively restored in 1998–1999. From 2000 onward, the tradition of May liturgies, connected with the blessing of the fields, was resumed there.

The two religious buildings therefore have different distinguishing features: the Chrám combines its dedication with a clearly identified architectural form, while the chapel is characterized not only by its construction date but also by a restoration period and a resumed liturgical tradition. Architecture, building history and religious customs thus appear as two distinct local features, without the buildings being combined into a single architectural complex.
