Holiday apartment in Kaluža: Water, wellness and cycle routes

Kaluža combines water experiences, cultural monuments and two clearly named cycle routes. At Thermalpark Šírava, the facilities range from various pools to slides, a lazy river, a swinging bay and a children’s playground. Thermalpark Šírava is located on the Medvedia hora peninsula in the municipality of Kaluža. Its water world includes a wave pool and a swimming pool. The thermal park also has a relaxation-oriented wellness centre with a sauna world.

Water and wellness

In the centre of Kaluža there is a non-swimmer pool that is 112 metres long, 12 metres wide and 1.2 metres deep. This non-swimmer pool in the centre of Kaluža on Zemplínska Šírava has been in operation since 2003. The pool complex in Kaluža also includes two children’s pools with a depth of 40 centimetres. Thus, both the dimensions of the large pool and the depth of the smaller pools are specified precisely for this area.

At the thermal park itself, different water areas are located side by side: the wave pool and the swimming pool form the water world, while the long and short slides, the lazy river and the swinging bay are further elements of the facilities. The children’s playground is also one of the listed amenities. In addition, the thermal park describes a relaxation-oriented wellness centre with a sauna world.

Culture

The Greek Catholic Church “Gréckokatolícky kostol sv. Tomáša” is a single-nave eclectic building. Its presbytery ends in a semicircle; the church also has a projecting tower dating from 1928. The architectural features thus combine the single-nave form of the building, its eclectic character, the shape of the presbytery’s end and the dated tower in a single local attraction.

One of the sights in the municipality of Kaluža is the monument “Pamätník osloboditeľom obce Kaluža”. Its full name explicitly indicates its connection with the municipality of Kaluža.

Cycling

Two routes with different destination details are named for cyclists. The Kaluža–Morské oko cycle route begins in Kaluža, heads east towards Jovsa and continues to Lake Morské oko. The starting point, direction and further course are clearly connected for this route.

The second connection is called Kaluža–Vyšná Rybnica. It leads from Kaluža via Kusín, Jovsa and Poruba pod Vihorlatom to Vyšná Rybnica. This route therefore names not only the starting and destination points, but also the sequence of Kusín, Jovsa and Poruba pod Vihorlatom.

The starting point, Kaluža, is identical for both routes, while their destinations and courses differ. On the first route, the named endpoint is at Lake Morské oko; on the second, the sequence of intermediate places ends in Vyšná Rybnica. The two routes can therefore be distinguished by their respective destination details.

Nature

A beach and a campsite are located on the shore of Zemplínska Šírava in the Kaluža holiday centre. The lakeside area is thus described by two specifically named facilities: the beach and the campsite.
