Discover Priboj: Culture on the Lim and Special Excursions

Priboj combines its location on the Lim with a remarkable old town, regional history and a variety of activities. The city stretches along the river and is divided into an old and a new district. This is a useful point of orientation when planning your trip: you can give different weight to cultural discoveries, activities on the water and excursions in the surrounding area before choosing a suitable holiday apartment in Priboj.

Culture in the Old Town

The Zavičajni Museum Priboj is located in two buildings in the centre of the old town. Its archaeological, art-historical and ethnographic departments offer different perspectives on the history and everyday life of the region. The permanent exhibition of the Native Museum Priboj also includes everyday objects collected mainly from rural households in the municipality of Priboj. The items date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Other notable sites are also located in the old town. The Hasan-agina Mosque was built around 1758. The Jevđević Memorial House is the oldest surviving house in the urban area of Priboj’s old town. Above the old town, the fortified complex of Jagat stands on Mount Bić and is considered the best-preserved fortified complex there. You can reach the foot of the complex by car; from there, the route continues on foot. This allows you to complement a day of culture in Priboj with a range of different historical impressions.

The Lim, the Regatta and Events

The Lim shapes not only the cityscape but also the annual events calendar. Rafting is organised on the river in Priboj every year from May to October. In recent years, the Limska Regatta has gone as far as Sjeverin, is approximately 20 kilometres long and takes around three hours to complete. This information helps you place the regatta in your travel plans as an experience in its own right, rather than confusing it with an ordinary walk along the river.

The Lim Fest music festival takes place over two evenings in the town square as a supporting event accompanying the Limska Regatta. If you would like to combine culture and water-based activities, the period around the regatta may therefore be an interesting travel option. Another event is Ilindanski Dani. It was founded in 2005 by the Tourist Organisation of Priboj, lasts three days and takes place in nearby Pribojska Banja. As part of the annual Ilindanski Dani, a competition for preparing ćeske is held there.

Excursions Between the Spa and Mountain Landscapes

Pribojska Banja is located 5 kilometres from Priboj city centre and is known for its healing thermomineral springs. The place therefore offers an independent excursion option within your travel plans. Those who would also like to include higher-altitude destinations will find Mount Javorje in the area around Priboj. Ober is located on the mountain; at 1,486 metres, it is described as the highest peak in Priboj and can be reached by car.

Another viewpoint is the excursion site of Panja Glava on the right bank of the Lim near Priboj’s new district. From there, you can see both the new and the old district. When looking for a holiday apartment, it is sensible to establish this priority before making a booking decision.

Arrival and Further Orientation

The Belgrade–Bar railway line also passes through Priboj and is therefore part of the local orientation when planning a trip. For families who would like to combine different interests, the town offers a mixture of history, regional everyday culture, river experiences and excursion destinations. You can also discover other destinations at the same level: Sjenica, Tvrdići, Užice, Mitrovac, Gostilje, Rosići, Sainovina and Rožanstvo.

For the overarching travel overview: Zlatibor District.
