Lalince: Wooded Slopes and Village History
Accommodation in Lalince
Lalince lies below Brezović on the right bank of the Veternica. Brezović is 1,120 metres high; the slope facing the village is almost entirely wooded and covered with ferns in places. The hills of Crešnja and Rogje are also wooded. In this way, the slope, forest and river shape the specific landscape features of the village.
Location and Landscape
In the Lalince area, the Gradiška is a right-bank tributary of the Veternica. This clarifies how the waterways relate to one another: the Gradiška is a tributary, while the village’s location is defined in relation to the right bank of the Veternica. Together, the river and tributary provide a clear geographical reference for Lalince.
The springs are also part of the local landscape. Baljin-Kladenac is recorded as one of Lalince’s named springs. In Golema Luka, there is a muddy spring called “slanište”. Historically, water from springs and streams was used as drinking water in Lalince. The spring names and their former use add a water-related aspect to the description of the wooded slopes and rural surroundings.
Village History and Rural Character
Lalince is considered to be an originally Serbian village. After 1878, Serbian settlers came to Lalince, mainly from Poljanica and Vinogoš. This places the village’s historical classification alongside a clearly dated wave of immigration. A historical account also records that troops reached Lalince on 15/27 January and spent the night there.
Agriculture also offers a concrete impression of the rural context. In 2012, more than 90 percent of agricultural holdings in Lalince kept livestock, including cattle, pigs, poultry and goats. This percentage conveys how widespread livestock farming was at the time; the animal species listed also show that it involved more than a single type of livestock.
Geologically, the view extends beyond the village: the central and largest part of the area, which also includes the Lalince atar, consists predominantly of metamorphic rocks and crystalline schists, especially gneisses. Thus, alongside the named waterways, the geological structure of the wider landscape comes into view.
Activities and Choosing a Place to Stay
A Canicross route called “Od kola do Barje”, recorded in August 2021, is located near Lalince. If Canicross is one of your travel interests, the route’s name provides a specific starting point for further planning. This activity-related detail complements the themes of landscape and village history.
When choosing a holiday apartment, you can weigh these features according to your travel interests: forests, hills and waterways are part of the landscape; the village’s history tells of its origins and immigration; and the Canicross route offers an activity nearby. Consider which of these aspects matters most to you when choosing a place to stay. This makes it easier to compare Lalince with your own travel plans based on specific landscape and historical themes.
