Discover Bojnik: Nature, Culture and Local Festivals
Accommodation in Bojnik
Bojnik offers several very different ways to spend your stay: protected nature, marked hiking trails, cultural history and local traditions. When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to decide what you want to focus on during your stay. Would you mainly like to discover the landscapes, explore the history or plan your visit around a festival? The answers point to different places and plans.
Nature on Radan and marked trails
The Radan Nature Park, a protected natural area, was designated in October 2017 within the municipality of Bojnik. Lake Brestovac is also part of it. The artificial reservoir on the Pusta is 2,800 metres long and lies 12 kilometres from Bojnik. This distance gives you a concrete reference point if you would like to combine your stay with nature destinations.
In Bojnik, the “Zmaj sa Radana” mountaineering and cycling club organises marked hikes. These include the approximately 3.5-kilometre “Health Trail”; check the trail conditions locally. A marked hiking trail also leads from the church in Borinac to the summit of Sveti Petar on Radan. So, alongside a route with a stated length, there are also trails leading to a named summit.
In the nearby area of Dobre Vode lies Delivode, where a stream divides into the Ivanjska and Magaška rivers. Another, unusually described phenomenon can be found in the nearby village of Ivanje. At the spot known as “Uzbrdna nizbrdica,” a sloping road about 300 metres long leads to the foot of a hill. With the engine switched off, a car rolls uphill there.
Cultural history and memorial sites
The Church of Saint Nicholas is known for its architectural value and beauty. In the nearby village of Mala Crkvica, the Milena Stanisavljević Ethno Museum is housed in an old building dating from the last century. It includes a small museum exhibition and an ethnographic room. If you would like to visit the museum specifically, check whether it is currently open to visitors beforehand.
The memorial cemetery in Bojnik is the site of an annual commemoration at which the “Charter of the Living” is read aloud. The monument to the victims of the Second World War stands at the site of the tragic events of 17 February 1942, when more than 500 residents of Bojnik and the surrounding area were shot. Remembrance and historical memory are closely intertwined here. Check the date of the gathering separately for your visit.
Local festivals and products
The Flower Festival is a traditional event organised by the Tourist Organisation and supported by the municipality of Bojnik. At one edition, six exhibitors presented flowers and products from the horticultural sector. For 2026, Bojničko leto was announced as a traditional three-day summer event, with the traditional Šeširijada scheduled for the second day. Both offer a glimpse of different aspects of the local events calendar.
A honey fair is also documented as a specific experience: in September 2023, visitors could taste the honey and bee products on display and buy them at producer prices. This describes that particular past edition, not a future date. If you would like to combine your trip with an event, check its specific dates rather than assuming it is held annually and can always be visited.
When choosing a holiday apartment in Bojnik, it is worth matching your choice to the places you plan to visit: events and the memorial cemetery are in Bojnik, the lake is 12 kilometres away and the Ethno Museum is in Mala Crkvica. This lets you base your accommodation choice on your planned nature, cultural or event visits.
