You can discover Blidari through tangible traces of its local history: the dedication of the parish church, the construction history of the Cuvioasa Parascheva Church, a museum object associated with the village, and the former Râmnicu Vâlcea–Vâlcele railway line. If you are travelling with children, construction phases, names and railway history offer concrete topics to explore together. When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to decide first whether local history, regional museum connections or the railway’s past is the deciding factor.

Churches with a history of their own

The parish church in Blidari is dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel. The Cuvioasa Parascheva Church is located in the village of Blidari, in Golești commune. It was built between 1889 and 1896 on the ruins of an older wooden church. This means the building brings together two periods: the construction of the church building and its older wooden predecessor. The dedication of the parish church offers a different emphasis. Those interested in local religious history can therefore view construction history and dedication as distinct ways of looking at Blidari.

Connections to Blidari at the Muzeul Satului Vâlcean

The Muzeul Satului Vâlcean in Bujoreni houses the exhibit Povarnă Blidari, also known as Povarna Ceauşescu Elvira. It is attributed to Blidari in Golești commune. A building erected in Blidari in the 19th century for making Tuci also comes from the village and was transferred to the museum. The exhibit’s name and attribution of origin are the main points of interest; the building also has its former manufacturing function and transfer to the museum to consider. This distinction is useful when planning your trip: the churches are in Blidari, while both museum connections are based at the Muzeul Satului Vâlcean in Bujoreni.

The railway line as a historical trace

The Râmnicu Vâlcea–Vâlcele railway line included a station at Blidari, also called Sâmnic. An engineering article from 2006 described the line at the time as 75 percent complete; according to the article, its engineering structures were 100 percent complete. These figures do not contradict one another: they refer to different scopes, namely the railway line as a whole and its engineering structures. The former railway line had been closed; at the time, there were no tracks along its route, which was around 40 kilometres long. In a historical account of a cycle tour along the route, the cyclists reached the unfinished Blidari Viaduct. To cross it, they descended into the valley to reach the other side. If you want to include the viaduct in your own cycling plans, check current access separately.
